A deal to sell 69,000 tons of coal may help Lakeland Electric avoid a penalty of more than $1 million. City commissioners voted 6-0 on Monday to sell $100,000 of excess coal to a cement company. Tony Candales, assistant general manager for production at Lakeland Electric, said the sale relieves them from a possible fine it faced from CSX.
